Managing Layers in Alight Motion

Working and mastering layer movement in Alight Motion allows you to create captivating videos and animations. Working with layer manipulation in Alight Motion opens up a world of creative possibilities for your video projects. Whether you are new to the Alight Motion app or looking to enhance your video editing skills, understanding how to manipulate layers is essential for creating captivating video projects. You can move, group, arrange, layer parent, hide, clip mask, and apply effects to the layer in your Alight Motion app like a pro video editor. Here are some techniques for you to skillfully maneuver your layers in Alight Motion:

  • Open the Alight Motion timeline editing dashboard.
  • Click on the layer you want to move.
  • To move layers horizontally (left or right), simply hold the layer and drag it in the desired direction.
  • For vertical movement (up or down), long-press the layer and move it using the three-line icon.

Grouping layers is a useful way to organize and manage them in various design or editing software. Grouping layers allows you to organize and manage them efficiently. Here’s how you can do it:

Select Multiple Layers:

First, make sure you have more than one layer in your timeline or canvas. You’ll need at least two layers to create a group.

Choose the Parent Layer:

Click on the layer that you want to serve as the parent layer. This will be the layer that contains the grouped elements.

Create a Group:

Look for an option like “Group” or “Layer Parent”. Click it to create a group. The selected layer will become the parent layer, and any other layers you select afterwards will become child layers within this group.

Manage Child Layers:

You can add more child layers to the group by selecting them and assigning them to the parent layer. Child layers inherit properties from the parent layer, making it easier to apply transformations or adjustments collectively.

Sometimes you want to hide specific layers temporarily. Here is a simple step on how you can do it:

  • To hide a layer, tap the eye icon next to it in the timeline. This makes the layer invisible in your composition.
  • To reveal a hidden layer, tap the eye icon again.

In Alight Motion, you can manage layers effectively using techniques like Layer Parenting and Null Objects.

Layer Parenting

Layer Parenting allows one layer to control the position, rotation, and scale of another layer. You can create a parent layer to manage movements for child layers. Changes to the parent layer affect child layers. Layer parenting is useful for complex animations or organizing large numbers of layers.

To set up a parent-child relationship:

  • Have at least two layers in the timeline.
  • Select the layer you want as the parent (it cannot be its own parent).
  • Tap on it and find the layer parenting option in the upper right corner.
  • Select the layer you want to create a child relationship with.

Null Objects

Null Objects don’t have visible content but help manage other layers. They are useful for grouping multiple layers under one layer. They act as control layers for transformations (position, rotation, scale) of other layers. Once created, Null Objects are rigid and cannot be modified.

In Alight Motion, you can easily extend or shorten a layer’s duration on the timeline. Here’s how:

Extend a Layer

  • Click on the layer you want to make longer.
  • Drag the right end of the layer towards the right. This action will increase the duration of the layer.
  • Voilà! Your layer is now extended.

Shorten a Layer

  • Click on the layer you want to make shorter.
  • Drag the right end of the layer towards the left. This will decrease the duration of the layer.

To apply a clipping mask:

  • Have two or more layers in the timeline.
  • Tap on any layer, and click the three dots in the upper-right corner.
  • Choose “Create clipping mask” to apply the mask.

In your app, you can:

  • Try the Oscillate effect for dynamic animations.
  • Adjust the Frequency for animation speed and set the Magnitude and Angle for desired oscillation.

To remove a layer from a group in Alight Motion, follow these steps:

  • Tap on the group layer body on the specific layer within the timeline.
  • Tap on the layer editing option.
  • Tap on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen. A list of options will appear on the screen.
  • Choose the “Ungroup” option.

All the layers in the group will be ungrouped and will be shown in a separate layer in the timeline later.

Mastering layer movement in Alight Motion is crucial for creating professional-quality animations and visual effects. By grasping the basics of layers and practicing techniques like moving, grouping, and hiding layers, you’ll unlock your creative potential.
